aMoL Chapter 151: Whatever happened to Padan Fain?
by Paetram

Rand: Here the Last Battle's all but over and still no sign of our old friend Padan Fain. Did he get lost? Is he home sick with the flu? I would have thought by now he'd have shown up for some kind of final showdown. Bit my finger off--something. It's all so...unfinished.

Perrin: So you want him to show up and machinate some nasty scheme against you?

Rand: No, not that exactly. I just sort of feel sorry for him. He was so worked up about killing me. It meant so much to him...

Perrin: Maybe he just got over it, read some self-help book and learned to control his rage against everything. I'm a Dysfunctional Evil Super-being, and I Want To Get Better is a good one. Just look at how Shaidar Haran turned out...

Rand: Yes, the Dark One sure was pissed over that, wasn't he? Moon falling from the sky, sea turning to blood... It could be, but I suspect that Fain is somewhat beyond self-help at this point in his character development.

Perrin: Maybe he fell in love and settled down somewhere, and completely forgot about wanting to kill you.

Rand: I suppose it's possible. The poor fellow was sort of handsome in his own toothless, foaming-at-the-mouth kind of way.

***

[The scene: A small cottage in Ghealdan.]

Fain: I took out the trash like you asked, dear wife.

Elaida: Did you use your powers this time, Padan? Do you remember what we discussed about using your evil powers around the house?

Fain: Yes, Elaida, I remember.

Elaida: Now, come here and help me with these pies. I work myself ragged in this house and you never do anything but sit on your behind down at that lake, fishing. You're worthless, Padan! Worthless!

Fain: Yes, I know it, dearest.
